Driving her teaching is the philosophy that embodied practices such as yoga, meditation, and dance can be vehicles for personal transformation, and can help people feel more alive and at home inside of themselves. She has studied dance since she was only 4 years old, and has been practicing yoga for the past 10 years.

Kristin became a certified yoga teacher (RYT-200) in 2011 after living and studying at the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, and in 2016 she completed Advanced Studies in Tantra Hatha Yoga (RYT-500) under the instruction of Yoganand Michael Carroll. Kristin has been a dedicated Ashtanga Yoga practitioner since 2013 and recently studied with Guru Sharath Jois at the K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore, India. Kristin holds a BFA Dance and BS Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Her background in indivudal athletics and team sports first drew her to the dynamic elements of yoga. The Ashtanga method has helped her hone self-discipline and a steady mind. Yoga teaches that competition is not about proving something or getting a final result, but stepping up for the challenge day after day. She is an RYT-200 with Yoga Alliance. unnamed-3Alisa Zhou was a competitive figure skater for over 10 years until a serious head injury put her life on hold. Several years into her recovery, she began to search for ways to rebuild her physical health. She found Ashtanga yoga along the way and has been a dedicated to the practice ever since. In the summer of 2015, she earned her RYT-200 certification through Yoga Alliance. At the moment she studies with Todd Boman, an authorized level 2 instructor in Chicago,IL and hopes to one day travel to Mysore, India and study at the Shri K Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute. Until then, she is finishing up her B.A. in Psychology and Minor in business at the University of Illinois at Champaign Urbana with plans to graduate in May 2016 while continuing her personal practice.
